Ohio’s second racino opened on April 9. Opening day attracted more than 2,100 visitors. Thistledown offers 1,150 VLTs, live entertainment, specialty restaurants and bars. Live horse racing returns April 19, although simulcast wagering is available year round. Thistledown will be open 24 hours and offers free parking.
It remains to be seen if Thistledown will reside permanently in North Randall. Horseshoe Cleveland is nearby, although officials believe these two venues can co-exist. The bigger challenge comes in December when a Hard Rock Rocksino opens at Northfield Park, less than 10 miles away.
Owners of Thistledown have an option to move to the Akron-Canton area. They have until June 2014 to decide whether to stay or move.
