Judge Grants Temporary Restraining Order
A Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge has issued a temporary restraining order that allows four of the fifty Internet cafes ordered closed last month by the county prosecutor to reopen. The judge’s ruling only effects the four cafes that filed for the TRO.
In her ruling, Judge Nancy Russo stated that sweepstakes games are not gambling and Internet cafes were legal. She became the second judge in Ohio to rule in favor of the Internet cafes, joining a Toledo judge who came to the same conclusion in 2009.
Another hearing will be held on July 23 at which both parties will present their arguments on whether such businesses are legal.
