Daily Fantasy Sports
The uproar over daily fantasy sports games has made its way into statehouses across the country. Thirty states have pending bills. This week, Virginia became the first state to sign into law regulations that govern daily fantasy sports. Among the provisions of the Fantasy Contest Act:
all players must be 18 or older, employees and immediate family members are prohibited from participating, websites must pay a $50,000 fee to operate in the state and, the website must undergo an annual audit.
According to a recent Toledo Blade article, “at least half the bills represent variations of an industry-backed proposal exempting the games from state gambling regulations and imposing requirements meant to protect consumers, according to an Associated Press review.”
