Racinos Delayed
The Ohio State Racing Commission is still dissatisfied with seating at the proposed racinos in Austintown and Dayton, as well as the Lebanon Raceway in Warren County. As a result, they again delayed a vote to transfer licenses from Beulah Park in Grove City to Austintown and Raceway Park in Toledo to Dayton.
By a 4-0 vote, the commission adopted resolutions calling for at least 650 additional indoor seats at the Austintown track and 400 additional seats in the grandstand at Lebanon Raceway. Commissioners were also not impressed with the number of horse stalls. Original plans called for 460 stalls. The commission recommended 1,000. Although the presentation to the commission was on the Austintown track, the Dayton track is very similar. The developer, Penn National Gaming, stated that a re-design would delay the project at least six months.
Meanwhile, the commission approved a summer racing season for River Downs, located in Cincinnati, to be held at Beulah Park. The temporary move was needed because of construction of a racino at the Cincinnati site. Races at Beulah Park will take place in the afternoon Sundays through Wednesdays. The racing season will be May 19 to September 23. Only Wednesdays will overlap with racing at Scioto Downs, where races will take place in the evening Wednesdays through Saturdays. Scioto Downs racing season will be May 8 to September 14.
