Governor Kasich signed HB 386 into law earlier this week. The governor did veto two line items including one that would have allowed a racino to call itself a casino in advertisements. The term ‘casino’ is to be used only with regard to the four facilities in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo that were approved by voters.

A one-year moratorium now goes into effect on all new Internet cafes. Existing Internet cafes are now required to register with the attorney general.

Meanwhile, in Cuyahoga County the hearing on a request for a temporary restraining order filed by an owner of one of the Internet cafes against the county prosecutor’s order to shut down all such businesses has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 13. The hearing, originally scheduled for June 11, was removed to Federal court and then remanded to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas.
