Trademark Lawsuit Update
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has rejected Caesars Entertainment’s request to dismiss objections by The Ohio State University to the casino’s attempt to trademark “The Shoe.” Caesars wants to trademark “The Shoe” for entertainment services at the Horseshoe Cincinnati casino. OSU objected, claiming “The Shoe” has referred to its football venue (Ohio Stadium) since at least 1988. OSU registered “The Shoe” as a trademark in 2006. Discovery is set to begin in June. The legal battle could rage for years or it could all go away. A spokesperson for JACK Entertainment stated that “The Shoe” is a Caesars brand that will go away with Caesars when Horseshoe Cincinnati rebrands itself as JACK Cincinnati Casino, which is currently scheduled to occur in June.
