Earlier this year the state Controlling Board had unanimously approved the purchase of 1,200 \u2018next generation\u2019 gaming machines for use at VFW posts and fraternal lodges.\u00a0 This was seen as a legal solution to Attorney General Mike DeWine\u2019s opinion that existing video raffle machines were illegal gambling.\u00a0 VFW and fraternal organizations filed a lawsuit, which is still pending.\u00a0 In June 2014, a judge refused to dismiss the case.\u00a0 VFW posts and fraternal lodges are allowed to continue using the existing raffle machines until the lawsuit is settled.<\/p>\n
In September, installation of these \u2018Multi-Purpose Next Generation\u2019 machines will begin in facilities that request them.\u00a0 VFW posts and fraternal lodges will have choices.\u00a0 They can keep their existing raffle machines, have the new Ohio Lottery machines installed, or use both.\u00a0 Each location is permitted up to five of the next generation devices at no charge.<\/p>\n
60% of the profits from the next generation machines will go to the state, to be used primarily for education and 40% will go to the VFW posts and fraternal posts to cover their expenses and allow them to make contributions to charitable organizations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
